All Hail the Picnic!
August 27, 2013

I'm a Big Fan of the picnic. You know how with restaurants someone else owns the place and makes the rules? There's waiting and service... And for some of us there's price. Well, going to the Farmer's Market or the store directly for picnic goodies is a great way to go. Is there an outdoor patio at a cool restaurant in town that you like? But maybe there's a long wait for tables. ...By any chance is there a quiet spot nearby, with bench, picnic table or even a bit o' grass? If so, you can get the same scene with a picnic! And you're not renting space, it's YOURS. Picnicking is the only way to catch the "This Land is Your Land" vibe. It's civic space! So open your hamper and spread your tablecloth and set out your flowers and ENJOY!!! You can cook up your picnic at home or just buy charcuterie, cheeses, jam, bread, crackers. Depending on local rules, BRING YOUR PET. Or a cold bev of choice. You can ramp up the quality of wine and food a few notches, too, for the same price. If need be, put it in a thermos or brownbag however needed. Hang out as long as you like. Read a bit. Play some music. Or, if a little more scenery or solitude is what you're after, go pick your ideal park or other public view -- no 2nd-best for you! It's your world! Welcome to it!!! (Ya know, people used to picnic a LOT more than they went to restaurants. Amazing, huh?)

A royal picnic. Splendid table!
