The OYB "Dually": a Nukeproof Saddlebag/Pannier from Repurposed Mil-Spec
April 23, 2010

$39 (inc. S/H)

[$39, mailed in the US.]

Check out this dual-purpose bag!

It's a big, tactical-tough bike saddlebag.

It's also a pannier!

(And if you add the $10 option, it's a Shoulerbag!)

And it's repurposed from a thrifty, brand-new MOLLE-type of mil-spec bag.

(You know I like the versatile stuff!)

Made of polyester cordura-type material with rubberized interior -- it seems darn water resistant. Nice quick-use plastic clips AND draw-cord locks for all main compartments. 2 drain grommets in bottom (tape shut if you like).

If you request it in a separate note, I can sew on a colorful embroidered OYB patch or rivet on a leather one. (It's solid branding because OYB is doing the repurposing and the bag is no longer what it once was.)

SPECS: 13" widest, 14" tallest, 10" deepest. It hangs 12" down from Brooks-type saddle loops. The main pouch is 7" wide, 11" tall, 5" deep. The main pouch is expandable by about 5" via an inner stuffsack (another 175 cu-in/3 L). It has 3 large outer pockets (3x4x7") and a top-flap zip-pouch (2x4x5"). Total (unexpanded) volume: 737 cu in; 12 cu L. Weight: 1.5 lbs.

Saddle-height shown is for a 6'2" rider -- so heed the hang-down dimension. From the pic you can see that the saddle could be a couple inches lower -- a rack would let you go down even more.

When I road-tested it in saddlebag-mode my hams would sometimes brush the side-pockets. No worse than with a Carradice Nelson Longflap, though.

The MOLLE attachment straps can't be used to mount it as a saddlebag so I include 3 leather straps to do the trick. (You can just cut off the MOLLE's if it'll be a dedicated saddlebag.)

The pannier mode uses 2 of the MOLLE snap-straps and one leather strap.

Now, this bag seems thrifty enough that you could just cut off pockets as you please if any dimension is too big for you -- this need or wish might arise in saddlebag mode.

So, have at it! : )

All I have in stock is this "Coyote" color. But I can also get it in Sand-Camo and should soon be able to get it in Black and OD.

(I call it "thrifty" because my margin is so tiny!)

Shoulderbag Option: For $10 extra I'll rivet on swivels and include a wide, adjustable clip-on shoulderstrap. Just click the button below...

Note: I sell luggage here at OYB to fund my promotion of indie outdoor culture. 1000+ stories and growing! Thanks for your purchase!
